Q: Once the product is printed, how long will it take for the ink to dry?

A: Almost instantly. The inks used in pad printing will be "touch dry" the moment you print onto the product. However, it will take approximately 24 hours in a warm environment for the inks to cure properly.

Q: Do I need to investment in a curing oven?

A: No. If required, you can use a regular domestic hair dryer, paint stripper heat gun, a small oven or even a normal domestic electrically operated oven. Never apply heat to lighters, plastics with a low melting temperature and other materials that could be damaged by heat.

Q: How long do I need to wait to print a second colour?

A: You can print the second colour immediatly after printing the first colour. In pad printing, the ink is "touch dry" the moment you print and so, are able to priint "wet on wet" without smudging the original impression.

Q: Can I use the ink straight out of an ink jar?

A: No. This is because the Ink has to be mixed with Retarder / thinner to obtain the correct viscosity.

Q: Can I reuse any left over ink again?

A: Yes, ink may be kept and reused many weeks later provided you have not mixed hardener into the ink.  If hardener is mixed with the ink then the shelf life of ink is around 72 hours.

Q: Can I mix inks to a Pantone colour?

A: Yes you can, by mixing the correct CMYK ink colours in the percentages required to produce the colour wanted.

Q: Can I produce a glitter effect using pad printing inks?

A: Yes, by mixing sparkling light colour ink with any standard colour of ink.

Q: Can I print onto any type of plastics?

A:  Yes, however, some plastics such as polypropylene require Corona or Flame treatment before ink will adhere to the product. However, most plastics used in the promotional printing industry are very easy to print onto and do not require any pre-treatment.

Q: Will the print scratch off once the product is printed?

A: Generally, No. However, to stop the print from scratching off, you will need to add hardener to the ink when printing onto Glass, Metal and Ceramics etc.

Q: How long will tampon printing pads last?

A: If used, handled, stored and treated with care the tampon printing pads should last many years.

Q: If the pad is damaged, can it be repaired?

A: Yes if the damage is in a non print transfer area and No, if the damage is in a print transfer area.

Q: Can I use one pad shape to print onto a number of different shaped items?

A: Yes, however, depending on the shape and print area of a product, you may need to use a different size and shape of pad. Generally, when printing onto promotional products, you don’t need to stock up on too many different tampon printing pads as a few carefully selected pads will cover most requirements.

Q: Are pads available in different hardness?

A: Yes. However, for printing onto most promotional products, a medium hardness pad is adequate.

Q: Can I print all the way around a product?

A: Generally No, pad printing is used to print around partial curved surfaces.

Q: Can I print very fine images on the pad printer?

A: Yes, providing your artwork and Cliché are of good quality and the viscosity of the ink is correct.

Q: How long does the steel doctor ring last?

A: Doctor Blade ring on the close ink cup can last for years. You can re-sharpen by using an Arkansas Block and / or very fine emery paper or cloth. This is provided the ring blade is not nicked or badly damaged.

Q: Does the pad printer have a downward pressure adjustment stop (Z axis)?

A: Yes – All our pad printers have the necessary stops to make setup and operation simple.

Q: How are Clichés attached to the pad printer?

A: The cliché is attached to the pad printer by 4 screws.

Q: Are we able to adjust the tampon printing pads in X and Y axis on the pad printer?

A: Yes you can, on all of our machines.

Q: What is the maximum product size that can be placed on the print table?

A: The table design is such that the product can be any size.

Q: Are the Polydiam manual pad printers faster than other competing manual pad printers?

A: Yes, they are. The number of actions required to print on our pad printer is 4 i.e. inking, doctoring, image transfer and printing. Very importantly the print process is very smooth and requires only one hand.
